Nope—those aren’t weeds! These dandelions are busy feeding the bees while we all wait for the lavender to bloom. It’s nature’s doing exactly what it’s meant to do.
Over the past few years, we have made a decision to embrace more native, pollinator friendly growing methods. It’s a shift from older thinking, but there is a beautiful landscape emerging around us. We have shifted to managing the grounds chemical free and embracing what many consider weeds. It makes more work to keep things tidy – but is rewarding when we see the bees, butterflies, and wildlife thriving. As we continue to nurture the landscape with this in mind, we are seeking out native plants and flowers and removing invasive non-natives trees and shrubs. This process will take many years but we are excited with how it is going.
Throughout the year, it is really beautiful to see the progression of blooms supporting pollinators – from early spring flowers, to our mid-season lavender and native flowers, to late summer wildflowers. We look forward to seeing you in the gardens soon!
