Our Old Barn Christmas Shop in the rustic log barn and the family-owned and operated Christmas tree farm provide the perfect setting for your holiday traditions and memories. Prairie Pines opens for the Christmas season the Friday after Thanksgiving.
We are a tree farm first and foremost, but delight in our weekends of horse-drawn hay-rack rides, hot chocolate and cookies served by the Maize High School music department, visits from Santa, and the occasional “train” ride for the kids. Our Old Barn Christmas Shop is open during all tree-cutting hours and additional fun activities are offered on select weekends.
CHOOSE AND CUT TREES
We generally offer Austrian, Virginia, and White pines for cutting on the farm but tree variety varies each season. When you arrive, we will provide you with a tree tag and a saw for cutting. You will walk or take a hay-rack ride to our fields to choose the perfect tree for you and your family. Prices for choose-and-cut trees are determined by the height. Occasionally we have a special field where any tree is a flat rate. Once you choose and cut your tree, our staff will shake it with our tree shaker and net it up. We will assist you in loading your fresh tree. We have all the supplies needed for tying your tree to your car. For current tree types and prices click here.
For convenience and beauty, we offer a wide selection of premium fir trees that are grown at higher altitudes and brought in just before the season-opening. In the past, we have offered Fraser, Noble, and Concolor fir trees. These pre-cut trees are choice select trees from Michigan and North Carolina. They are priority shipped and carefully cared for to ensure the freshest, most beautiful tree possible. These trees are on full display around our Old Barn or in the Large Tree Barn. Pricing is determined on a per tree basis and all tree prices are clearly marked. Once you choose your tree, our staff will shake your fresh pre-cut tree with our tree shaker and net it. We can help with trimming off the bottom stump and we will assist you with loading your fresh tree. We have all the supplies needed for tying your tree to your car.
OLD BARN CHRISTMAS SHOP
Every year our rustic log barn is transformed into a Christmas wonderland. The barn is filled with fresh trees and greenery. Each tree is decorated with thousands of ornaments for you to purchase. We search for unique Christmas ornaments and decorations for you to choose from. Fresh wreaths are made each weekend and decorated with a variety of ribbons and treasures (while supplies last). You can even have a wreath custom decorated while you are cutting your tree or shopping. Necessities, such as tree stands and tree removal bags are always available for your convenience.
HOT CHOCOLATE AND COOKIES
The choral music department from Maize High School sells cookies and hot chocolate in our concession building. They raise important funds every year for their department. Each year hundreds of tree farm customers support this worthy cause. You can also sign up for our mailing and e-mail list on our website.
HORSE DRAWN HAY-RACK RIDES
Horse-drawn and tractor-drawn hay-racks will take our tree customers to the fields to choose a tree. The horses come in from Kingman and are available on select weekend hours. Tractor-drawn hay-racks are always available.
We have a children’s train pulled by a small tractor. We operate the train on select weekend hours. There is no charge to ride the train.
We offer visits from Santa on select weekend hours. The delightful backdrop of flocked trees and Santa’s old sleigh offers the perfect opportunity for the children to deliver their wishes to Santa while you capture the moment beautifully on your own camera. There is no charge to visit with Santa. Donations to his reindeer food fund will always be appreciated. (See 2020 changes here.)
Prairie Pines Playhouse offers a hilarious mystery dinner 5 nights a week during the holiday season. Please visit PrairiePinesPlayhouse.com to book tickets or get information.
The beautiful location and holiday décor offer a stunning backdrop for family photos. While we understand the desire for photos in the lovely setting, we ask that no professional photo sessions are scheduled. Tripods and lighting equipment are not allowed. Please refrain from any photography that interrupts our tree-farm operation and the regular activities of customers.
